Is it okay to workout every day?
Listen to your body. Take a day off when needed, particularly in the beginning, to avoid injury.
Can I work out on an empty stomach?
It’s usually advisable to have a light meal before you workout. That can be a small smoothie or juice, a piece of fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. As a guide try to avoid eating 30 minutes before class.
Can I workout even though I’m injured?
Yes. Provided a medical professional has cleared you to begin exercising again. Make sure you talk to the trainer before you start your class so they can provide modifications to the workout to prevent re-injury.
Will HIIT workouts make me bulk up/lose muscle mass?
In general HIIT workouts are designed to build lean muscle, and improve overall strength and conditioning. Using lighter weights and higher reps when training is a great way to achieve muscle toning without adding bulky muscle mass. If you are looking to add large amounts of muscle mass try working with heavier weights and lower reps. If in doubt, talk to your trainer about your fitness goals.
What type of exercise is Training Mate?
Training Mate is a circuit based 45 minute HIIT (high intensity interval training) class that uses a combination of resistance and cardiovascular exercises to burn up to 1,000 calories in a single session.
I’m a little unfit, and have some injuries. Will this workout suit me?
Training Mate has been designed to tailor for any fitness level, from first timers to your super athletes! Any questions, especially regarding injuries, get in early to speak with your trainer, and they can suggest modifications for you.
Where is the best place to park?
Parking anywhere in LA can be tricky. So please plan to come to class 15 minutes prior to start time, Santa Monica (Samo):  Street parking out front on Lincoln Blv is free until 9am, otherwise please read signs for metered parking. There’s plenty around! Studio City (Stud): We have metered street parking available right our front on Ventura Blv, but if you are lucky you may also find free parking in the surrounding streets, including behind us on Ventura Court West Hollywood (WeHo): There is a parking lot around the corner on Orange Grove for $1/hour. Otherwise, there is plenty of metered parking on Santa Monica Blv, and if you don’t mind walking a little, free parking in surrounding streets.
How long are classes?
Classes generally run for around 45 minutes, although our Might Mate classes on a Wednesday and a Sunday are longer, with 1 minute intervals instead of 45 seconds, so allow about 55 minutes in total on these days.
Do you have showers?
We have showers at Santa Monica location, and one in West Hollywood. We supply towels, hair and body products and hair dryers for your convenience.
What do I need to bring for class?
Bring comfortable sports clothing, athletic shoes, a water bottle (we have water and other goodes for sale) and a big smile. We supply sweat towels for you.
What is the difference between the Mighty Mate workouts, compared to other days?
The Mighty Mate operates an interval of a one minute on, fifteen seconds off. It is a full-body workout. If you want more information about the workouts and schedule please jump visit our website or pick up a flyer with all the details next time you are in the studio.
What should I do besides workout at Training Mate?
Hiking, pilates, yoga, and stretching are all great accompaniments to HIIT workouts.
How many calories will I burn in class?
This depends on many factors including the fitness level of the participant, as well as their exertion rate. On average our mates burn 500-700 calories in a 45-minute session.
I love to work out many times a week. What is the best membership option for me?
Our Unlimited Membership allows you unlimited access, every day, to any studio- Santa Monica, Studio City and West Hollywood locations. It's just $259 per month (3 month minimum)
If I want to suspend my membership, what is your policy?
If you have a membership, you are entitled to suspend your membership at anytime, with no charge. Suspensions are 1 month minimum and requests are required in writing to at least 14 days prior. Suspensions are not applicable to single month memberships.
If I want to cancel my membership, what is your policy?
If you want to cancel your membership, no worries, you can cancel anytime after your 3 month minimum agreement, with 14 days notice. We do need this in writing, so just send an email to
I go away a lot. Can I put my membership on hold?
Yes you can always request to have your membership put on hold for a month with no charge and we are always happy to work with you on something that best suits your situation.
I’m excited to join today, but I’m. not ready to start my membership until a later time. Is that ok?
Sure! We can set you up on a membership today, but hold off on your activation date so it can defer payment, and you can start classes when suits you.
I usually work out about 2 x week. What is the best membership option for me?
We have an 8 class membership option which allows you to come 8 times month. This membership is perfect for those wanting to give Training Mate a good solid try! If you plan on coming more, you are best to opt for our Unlimited Membership instead.
I’m interested in buying a pack. Do they expire?
No, our packs have an endless expiry.
I’m on a ClassPass membership. Can I switch classes if the one I booked doesn’t suit?
Because of our integration with ClassPass and their policies, we do not have authority to book or change classes for you, and cannot take responsibility for cancellation fees applied to you. In order for ClassPass to work, we need to honor our agreement and your agreement with them. When you decide to become a member of Training Mate, there will be much more flexibility with your membership options.

I’m having trouble logging in/booking a class. What should I do?
If you’re having trouble logging in to your account, or booking a class, first try re-install your Training Mate or app, and reset your password. Also check your software if up to date. If this doesn’t do the trick, contact your studio and our amazing staff will get it sorted for you.
What are your late cancellation policies?
We have a 12 hour late cancellation policy, so if you can’t make your scheduled class, please be sure to cancel outside of this window, to avoid a late cancellation fee of up to 100% of the class cost.
Can I work out if I'm pregnant?
While it is possible to work out right up to the due date, it is essential that you are cleared by a medical professional before you take part in a workout.
What if I can't do everything in class?
Our classes are designed for people of all fitness levels. We meet you where you're at in your fitness journey, with no other expectations than that you have a good time. Our trainers are only too happy to help modify the exercises to help you perform them proficiently and safely.
I want to bring a mate! How can they sign up?
Of course!  We offer first class free so we encourage you to bring along your friends to try a class with you. We are all about working out with your mates and having fun, so the more the merrier. There are also some perks for referring clients.
How old do I need to be to take class?
Our age limit is 18 years old. Unfortunately, you cannot work out until you are 18 years old. You will have to wait, mate!
Can I bring my pet to class?
Sorry, we love furry friends, but we do have a no pet policy at Training Mate.
Does Training Mate have a referral program?
We sure do! All mates are welcome to join Perkville, our referral partners, which gives points for coming to class, purchasing retail and referring mates.  And you can redeem some pretty amazing awards including free classes, discounts and discount memberships
